For decades, Excalibur Bronze has worked with the finest architects, designers and builders all over the world to design, engineer and craft architectural and ornamental metalwork on a wide array of projects. No project is too large or too small. Below is a small sampling of projects we have completed over the years.
CUNY Graduate Center, New York City, NY
Excalibur restored and rebuilt the historic bronze and iron work in what was once the historic Altman's Department Store on Fifth Avenue in New York City when it was purchased and converted for use as a graduate studies center by the City University of New York. Pictured above are the elaborate birdcage elevator elevator and enclosure, library railings and light fixtures which Excalibur built. The light fixtures were remade new entirely based on the inset historic etchings of the department store's brochure, as the original had already been destroyed.
Ohio Statehouse
The lighting in the Ohio Statehouse had been completely gutted and disposed of decades previous when the Ohio State Government undertook to restore the Capitol Building to its former splendor. The only image available of the massive chandeliers in the main assembly chamber was found in an archived copy of Frank Leslie's magazine dating to 1861, which contained a lithograph image of Abraham Lincoln addressing the Ohio State Assembly. Based on the inset image, Excalibur completely designed, sculpted and crafted the replacement fixtures with meticulous attention to detail (including sculpting the figures of Pallas and Justice that stand around the central shaft). Excalibur gave the same treatment to numerous other fixtures in the historic building, crafting dozens in different styles and configurations, including smaller fixtures and wall sconces.
Waldorf-Astoria Hotel
Excalibur sculpted, cast and assembled the entire grand canopy, entry and lobby fixtures and ornaments for the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel based on the art-deco designs of the building's original motifs.
Grand Central Terminal
Excalibur crafted the elaborate ornamental metal grilleworks and light fixtures for Grand Central Terminal's ticket stations during the historic rail station's complete renovation.
Credit Lyonnaise
Excalibur sculpted, cast and crafted new ornamental handrails and balustrades for the Credit Lyonnaise offices in New York City.
Basilica of the Assumption
Excalibur designed, cast and crafted new chandeliers based on the designs of the historic, original fixtures that had been lost for the Landmark Basilica of the Assumption in Baltimore, MD.
Helmsley Building Lobby Relief
Excalibur sculpted, cast and installed 2 large mirror-image bas relief plaques commemorating the train yards that used to exist at (230 Park Ave). The plaques were designed and made to fit in the slots of the building's old directory listing boards.
New York State Appellate Division of the Supreme Court
Excalibur restored the entire ornamental stained glass dome framing, located in New York City.
New York Public Library Main Branch
Excalibur crafted new light fixtures for the main reading rooms based on historic designs.
Hudson County Courthouse
Excalibur crafted new fixtures for various locations throughout the main branch, including sconces and table fixtures on numerous occasions.
Temple Emanu-El
Excalibur sculpted, cast and crafted the ornamental doors to the historic Temple Emanu-El on 5th Avenue in New York City.
Westbury Hotel
Excalibur cast and crafted the canopy over the main entrance to the Westbury Hotel in New York City.
Hudson County Courthouse
Excalibur modeled and produced period lighting based on the original fixtures for the Hudson County Courthouse in Jersey City, NJ.
Barclay-Vesey Building
After the attacks on the World Trade Center on 9/11/01, falling debris shore off a large swathe of the art deco facade of the historic Barclay-Vesey Building (formerly the "AT&T Building". Excalibur salvaged remaining elements to reconstruct recreate large new sections of the facade in order to restore the building to it's prior condition. Excalibur also did extensive work on the ornamental interior lobby of the building, which was also damaged.
Plaza Hotel
Excalibur designed, sculpted and crafted a new ornamental handrail surround for the Plaza Hotel's new shopping concourse.
Van Cleef & Arpels
Excalibur 3d-modeled, printed, cast and installed ornamental metalwork including bronze trim, mirrors and a large central chandelier.
